Havli in Oslo 2010 / Utah 2012 / Illinois 2013 / Toronto 2015

Oslo, the ski classy capital

Do you hear „Linje en og Frogneseteren“? Just hop on and Holmenkollbanen subway is going to take up to Holmenkolllen. Why? Oslo is ready for its greatest event in this millennium. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is just about to begin.

Holmenkollen ski tracks labyrinth

12 days, 3 arenas and 19 sets of medals – all in Holmenkollen National Arena overlooking the Oslo city. Norwegians are pretty ambitious so they want Oslo 2011 to be the best Nordic Ski Championships ever. All this makes Oslo Championships must see event for all winter sport fans. See the prolog video here.

Holmenkollen National Arena suffered general reconstruction and now is ready to host the best athletes in the world. Arena consists of Holmenkollbakken “steel tower”, new dominant  od Oslo, well hidden Midtstubakken  jumping hill and Ski Tracks Stadium.

Many great athletes are going to come to compete in Holmenkollen. There are some of them that truly desire our attention:

Cross-country skiing is Norwegian winter sport number one. So ler´s begin. No doubt. Norwegian Marit Bjørgen in actual form should be the Holmenkollen Championships most shinning star - pretty hard to beat this year, very stable in last years and triple gold medalists in Vancouver 2010.

Marit Bjørgen (NOR) - How many gold medal will she be able to score on Holmenkollen?

Situation in men´s category is a bit more complicated. Swiss Dario Cologna is the current World Cup leader but the biggest attention will be focused on Norwegian "well-behaved boy" Perter Northug. I can´t forget the best distance skier in last years, Czech Lukáš Bauer. Lukáš already won everything he could but not any golden medal from "great" event like Olympic Games or World Championships.

Petter Northug (NOR) - Bad boy for sure, arogant as well, although pretty good skier

Lukáš Bauer (CZE) - Tough hills, high stable speed are his weapons.

Ski jumping, my "heart thing", will be very specular events in Oslo. Ski jumping = Austria. That´s true of last years. There is no doubt that Thomas Morgenstern is the best in this season. But he is not that sovereign in last weeks. "Polish Eagle" Adam Malysz or four times Olympic winner, Swiss Simon Amman is waiting for his fault.

Wanna to bet for sure. I would reccomend you gold for Austrian ski jumpers in both team races. Morgenstern, Schlierenzauer, Kofler, Koch, Loiztl.

Vikersund beats Planica

Still couple of days missing till begining of FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Holmekkollen, Oslo. But the celebration of skiing in Norway already began with its first highlight - FIS World Cup skyfliing in Vikersund.
New mammoth jumping hill HS225 Vikersund

Haven´t ever heard about Vikersund? Than believe that HS225 Vikersundbakken (hill size - the "little iron dwarf" on Holmenkollen is just HS134) is now the largest jumping hill in the world. Vikersund is situated just 40 west of Oslo. Slovenian Planica was the largest jumping hill for ages - famous and traditional. But Norwegians wanna to be better so Vikersundbakken was enlarged during the general reconstruction in 2010.

New world record holder Johan Remen Evensen (NOR)

The first skyfliing event after reconstruction was enough to set new world record. Norwegian Johan Remen Evensen landed on the mark of 246,5 meters in the qualification. We will see whether 250m is possible in Vikersund?

The first shared victory was captured by new world record holder Johan Remen Evensen (NOR) and Austrian Gregor Schlierezauer (getting back into top form after injury).
